Research Opportunity - University of Leeds
A fixed term Research Fellowship (6 months maternity leave cover) is available at the University of Leeds. This is an exciting opportunity to join the IAGP research team.
Closing date 10 October 2011
You will perform a key evaluation of physical science aspects for the project. Specifically you will run the UK Met Office Unified climate Model (HadGEM2-ES) to evaluate the effectiveness and side effects of geoengineering options, collaborating with the UK Met Office, and other partners. You will receive broad training in climate modelling, presentation and scientific writing skills. You will also work as part of a national interdisciplinary team of enthusiastic scientists evaluating the societal and technological challenges of geo-engineering and collaborate internationally, giving opportunities to travel to the US and Europe.
You will have, or be close to completing, a PhD and have a strong record of research in atmospheric climate modelling and analysis of climate feedbacks. You will have experience of Fortran, IDL, and shell scripts for Unix platforms and UK supercomputers. You will have proven track record of publication in the area of climate change modelling and/or climate feedbacks, an interest in interdisciplinary research and the ability to work as part of a team. You will be expected to contribute to ongoing research of the physical climate change group and the wider IAGP project. You will also be expected to publish research papers, and to present your research at national and international meetings.
